Charlie Gerhart was born circa 1835 at Ohio.1 He was the son of Adam Gerhart and Sophia Zimmer.1

S. census for District No 137 Salem Township, Washington County, Ohio as Charlie Gerhart, 15 years old, birthplace of Ohio. Attended school within the year. Also enumerated in the household were Sophia Zimmer, Adam Gerhart, Caroline Gerhart and Elizabeth Gerhart.1
On 12 July 1860 Charlie Gerhart was enumerated in the household of John Gerhart on the 1860 U. S. census for Lowell and Marietta Post Office, Fearing Township, Washington County, Ohio as Carl Gerhart, 24 years old, birthplace of Ohio, occupation of Farmer. Also enumerated in the household were Margaret Lauer, Elizabeth M Gerhart, Caroline Gerhart, Elizabeth Gerhart, Jacob Gerhart and Anna Maria Lauer.2
Charlie Gerhart married Elizabeth Bauer on 24 February 1861.3
