     Alexander Cantrell was born circa 1838 at Tennessee.1 He was the son of Gabriel Cantrell and Nancy Smith.1

On 8 October 1850 Alexander Cantrell was enumerated in the household of Nancy Smith on the 1850 U. S. census for the 23 Subdivision, McMinn County, Tennessee as Alexander Cantrell, 12 years old, birthplace of Tennessee. Attended school within the year. Also enumerated in the household were Larkin Cantrell, William Cantrell, Thomas Cantrell, James Cantrell, Robert Cantrell, Felix Cantrell, Mary Ann Elizabeth Cantrell, Sarah Cantrell, Hesekiah Cantrell, Joseph Pealin Cantrell and David Cantrell.1

On 16 August 1860 Alexander Cantrell was enumerated in the household of Nancy Smith on the 1860 U. S. census for Hazelwood Post Office, Union Township, Webster County, Missouri as Alexander Cantrell, 23 years old, birthplace of Tennessee, occupation of Farm laborer. Could not read or write. Also enumerated in the household were Felix Cantrell, Mary Ann Elizabeth Cantrell, Sarah Cantrell, Hesekiah Cantrell, David Cantrell, Joseph Pealin Cantrell and Sarah E Cantrell.2
