     Samuel Wesley Thurston was born on 4 August 1832 at Ohio.2,1 He was the son of Samuel Thurston and Prudence Bearss.1,2

Samuel Wesley Thurston was 14 years old, when his father, Samuel Thurston, died on 20 June 1847.3

On 1 October 1850 Samuel Wesley Thurston was enumerated in the household of Prudence Bearss on the 1850 U. S. census for Pleasant township, Wabash County, Indiana as Wesley Thurston, 18 years old, birthplace of Ohio, occupation of Farmer. Attended school within the year. Also enumerated in the household were William Kilbourn Thurston, Mary Frances Thurston, Laura Caroline Thurston and Prudence Philena Thurston.2

Samuel Wesley Thurston married Martha Shallenberger on 7 April 1858 at Wabash County, Indiana. Daniel Thompson officiated.4

On 19 June 1860 Samuel Wesley Thurston was enumerated in the household of Prudence Bearss on the 1860 U. S. census for Laketon Post Office, Pleasant Township, Wabash County, Indiana as Wesley Thurston, 27 years old, birthplace of Ohio, occupation of Farmer. Also enumerated in the household were Mary Frances Thurston, Prudence Philena Thurston and Martha Shallenberger.5

Samuel Wesley Thurston was enumerated on 18 July 1870 as head of household on the 1870 U. S. census for Garden City Post Office, Garden City, Blue Earth County, Minnesota as Samul Thurston, 37 years old, birthplace of Ohio, occupation of Clerk Ret Dry Goods, value of real property $1700, value of personal property $300. Enumerated as 21 Year or older male citizen.. Also enumerated in the household were Martha Thurston and Susan Shellenberger.6

Samuel Wesley Thurston was enumerated on 12 July 1880 as head of household on the 1880 U. S. census for Red Oak, Montgomery County, Iowa as Samuel W Thurston, 47 years old, Married, birthplace of Ohio, occupation of Sewing Machine Agent. Father born in New York. Mother born in New York.. Also enumerated in the household were Martha Thurston, Laura Morse and Lacy Weiland.7
