John Gerhart was born circa 1845 at Ohio.1 He was the son of Jacob Gerhart and Catharine Zimmer.1
On 27 August 1850 John Gerhart was enumerated in the household of Jacob Gerhart on the 1850 U. S. census for Fearing Township District No 157, Washington County, Ohio as John Gerhart, 5 years old, birthplace of Ohio. Also enumerated in the household were Catharine Zimmer, Jacob Gerhart and Charels Gerhart.1
On 12 July 1860 John Gerhart was enumerated in the household of Jacob Gerhart on the 1860 U. S. census for Lowell and Marietta Post Office, Fearing Township, Washington County, Ohio as John Gerhart, 14 years old, birthplace of Ohio. Attended school within the year. Also enumerated in the household were Catharine Zimmer, Jacob Gerhart, Charels Gerhart, Daniel Gerhart, William Gerhart, Henry Gerhart, Christoph Gerhart and Sara C E Gerhart.2
