Amanda Hughes was born circa 1836 at Georgia.1 She was the daughter of John W. Hughes and Rebecca (?).1
On 2 December 1850 Amanda Hughes was enumerated in the household of John W. Hughes on the 1850 U. S. census for Barretts District, Lumpkin County, Georgia as Arminda Hughs, 14 years old, birthplace of Georgia. Attended school within the year. Also enumerated in the household were Rebecca (?), Mary Ann Hughes, Charity Hughes, Wesley Hughes, Martha Hughes, Emily Hughes, Thomas Hughes, Lafayette Hughes and William Richarson.1
