     James Ladd was born circa 1820 at Ohio.1 He was the son of Noble Ladd and Sarah (?).1

James Ladd married Sarah Davis on 5 January 1837 at Vigo County, Indiana.2

James Ladd was enumerated during 1840 on the 1840 U. S. census for Lost Creek Township, Vigo County, Indiana as head of family James Ladd. Enumerated in this family were: Free White Persons (including head of families); 1 male to 5 years old, 1 male 20 to 30 years old, 1 female to 5 years old, 1 female 30 to 40 years old. Total 4 persons. Number of persons in each family employed in; Agriculture 1.3

On 2 October 1850 James Ladd was enumerated in the household of Rebecca Ladd on the 1850 U. S. census for Lost Creek Township, Vigo County, Indiana as James Ladd, 30 years old, birthplace of Ohio, occupation of Laborer. Also enumerated in the household were Lousia Perkins, Amanda Perkins and William Ladd.1
