On 20 July 1860 Amarilla Smith was enumerated in the household of Melancton Smith on the 1860 U. S. census for Fort Edward, Washington County, New York as Amarilla Smith, 31 years old, birthplace of New York Also enumerated in the household were Lucy E Smith, Augustus Smith, Artemus Joel Smith, Alice Smith, Herman Smith and George Pearce.2
